“Chotto” means “little” in Japanese.

While catching up with one of my friends, we started talking about how our subconscious thoughts label some topics as “taboo”, “controversial”, or “too heavy”. There is not much space or place for people in my age to discuss such topics without it being intense debate where all sides are focused on winning and being the last one to speak. Chotto Thought is a platform for me as the host and for listeners to delve into seemingly controversial topics and provide food for thought. The project aims to foster a casual atmosphere around such topics, shifting away from seriousness and encouraging open-ended exploration instead of argumentation.

Some of my favorite episodes:

1. Sustainability: SDGsって何やねん

39. decision fatigue: 選択肢って多い方がいいの?

53. dealing with rejections: Noと言われた時どないするん?

72. non-nativeとしてアメリカで働くこと

90. これといった武器が無い人へ: the double-edged sword of “well-roundedness”

The Mission of This Podcast

I believe many of us have experienced “binary bias” at some point — the tendency to see everything as either one thing or another, with no middle ground. Through my experiences living in two vastly different countries, as I've grown older, I’ve learned that the world is often nuanced and complex while we often force ourselves to label things black vs white quickly. I want to shed light on the gray areas and encourage people (including myself) to ask more thoughtful questions over seeking definitive answers.
