Zobeide

A Visual representation of Zobeide featured in The Invisible City by Italo Calvino. The place is described as the city of desire, a land where designers twist roads and change landscapes solely based on their desire to capture a “woman” they once saw in their dream. I made a comparison of Zobeide with the U.S. by making the city planning out of a U.S. History textbook and using historical images for the geographical features to illustrate the desire of humans in the nation that serves as the foundation of its history.

The four eyes of men at the corners of the city play the role of the watch-dogs that look over the entire land. On each layer of the topography are the images that depict the political, economic, and social “desire” of the U.S.—gerrymandering, slavery, Independence War, to name a few. This project was selected to be in the student exhibition at the end of the semester.
