Uber Drives in 2014

I started learning how to use Tableau, and here is the very first data visualization using the tool. More works on the way.

Some notes from this visualization:

  • There are two peaks of Uber usage in a day: the highest at 17:00 pm, and the second highest at 7:00 am. Though there is no evidence that directly supports the correlation between the general full-time working hours and the two peaks, the two maximum Uber usage time aligns with the commute hours.

  • The gap between the highest peak and the second highest peak is pretty wide; number of Uber rides at 17:00 pm is about double the number of Uber rides at 7:00 am.

  • Assuming majority of the usage is for commute to an individual’s work, this variance between two times may suggest that around (or at least) 4,5000 people do not use their privately-owned automobiles (thus, using ride hailing services and public transportation on either or both ways of commute).

  • The closer to the metropolitan area, the more Uber rides, both in general and during night time, there are.
