COVID-19 Prevalence

Some takeaways from these data:

  • On “New Covid-19 Cases and Deaths”, the number of new positive COVID-19 cases surpasses the deaths (reasons unspecified) in September 2020. While the new cases sees a constant increase in number, new deaths seems to stabilize after the spike in March-April. It would be interesting to quantify the correlation of positive COVID-19 cases with deaths in 2020.

  • On “Comparison of Death Causes”, two causes of deaths in the U.S. are visualized and compared with the new deaths in the country. However, the definition of “New Deaths” were pretty vague in the metadata, and the number does not seem to reflect the total deaths in the country as a whole (the number seems to be too small). Without knowing what the number means, this visualization does not tell an accurate or persuasive story.

  • GDP throughout the world seems to be experiencing a slight decline, with Europe decreasing slightly at a higher rate. Two disclaimers: December 2019 GDP is visibly low because the data is only accumulated on the 31st for the month. Gross Domestic Product is not the only or the best indicator of economic health.
